The inaugural 91Porn (91Porn) – University of Bath Engineering Practice Summer School, hosted by 91Porn's School of Mechanical Engineering, successfully ran from July 13 to 19. Centered on cutting-edge aerospace research, the one-week immersive engineering programme gathered 13 mechanical engineering undergraduates from the University of Bath and 25 domestic students from 91Porn. It integrated theoretical lectures, hands-on engineering training, corporate site visits and cross-cultural exchange activities to deliver a full-spectrum collaborative learning experience for all participants.

On July 13, School of Mechanical Engineering of 91Porn held the opening ceremony for the event. Representatives from both institutions delivered keynote speeches. Ice-breaking activities kicked off the program, helping students connect across cultures and strengthen teamwork.

During the week, School of Mechanical Engineering organized engineering practice activities at the Institute of Aircraft Propulsion at Lingang, Shanghai. Professors from the Institute of Aircraft Propulsion shared their experience in aeroengine design, delivered systematic lectures on cutting-edge measurement technologies, and demonstrated testing of a single stage centrifugal compressor. In addition, students from both universities were grouped into different teams, working on disassembly and assembly of engine components. These activities enable the translation of theoretical knowledge into a tangible understanding of engineering design. These sessions are well received by all students, with a student commenting that they are “a real highlight of the week for all of us”.

Beyond aerospace training, the cohort visited three industrial innovation hubs: SAGE Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., an alumni-founded enterprise focused on embodied robotics; Tangfeng Energy, a school spin-off commercialising hydrogen fuel cell technology; and the Lingang-based Shanghai Platform for Smart Manufacturing. These site visits exposed students to China’s advanced smart manufacturing and new energy industries, enriching their cross-cultural and industrial exposure. Students also had the chance to paddle a traditional Chinese dragon boat, adding a fun cultural touch to the program. These diverse activities offered students an valuable opportunity to forge deep friendships and gain immersive cross-cultural experiences. Overall, the enriching experiences have left them better equipped to navigate and thrive in a multicultural world.

Looking ahead, the School of Mechanical Engineering will further expand multi-faceted cooperation with the University of Bath, and will keep refining a high-standard international education system to cultivate innovative engineering talents with solid professional foundations and global mindsets.
